Everyone in the Hollywood area is aware of the extensive damage that can be caused by a hurricane or other tropical storm. Most property owners carry a sizeable amount of hurricane insurance in order to offset the cost of any damage that can arise. However, it still happens that claims in the Hollywood area are denied or not paid at the amount that property owners expect following a hurricane. Such unfair settlement offers or outright denials from the insurance company can be very frustrating after property owners have faithfully paid on their premiums. Many Fort Lauderdale residents own condos that they rent out to tourists. When a hurricane causes water or other damage, the property owner not only suffers a loss to the actual property, but to potential income, as well. Because substantial water and structural damage from a storm can take a good amount of time to repair, the loss of income can be substantial. Most property owners insure against loss of rental income, but insurance companies will sometimes quibble over claims as to how much the actual income would have been if the water damage had not occurred.

A Florida man lost his life this week—and a woman who was walking with him was injured—when they were struck by a car while trying to cross State Road 7 in Broward County. According to police reports, the man died at the scene of the car accident and the woman is in critical condition.
 
The two pedestrians were struck by a car that was traveling behind another vehicle. The first vehicle swerved, presumably to avoid hitting the pair, but the driver of the second vehicle did not have time to react and hit the pedestrians. Police have indicated that the driver of the car remained at the scene and has cooperated fully with law enforcement.…
