Rescue workers in South Florida resorted to the “jaws of life” this past week in order to extricate a man from his vehicle after it was hit by a Broward County bus. The accident occurred in Fort Lauderdale and resulted in serious injury to the trapped man. It took the better part of the afternoon for firefighters to cut away half of the man’s car. Once they were able to free the gentleman, he was rushed to a nearby hospital under trauma alert. Four other people were on the bus at the time of the accident. Though it was unclear if any sustained an injury, they all denied treatment, according to a spokesperson for the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department. The accident is under investigation.

The seriousness of this accident is a startling reminder of how an injury can be suffered anytime drivers in South Florida get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Any accident can result in injury, though, of course, an accident with a truck or a bus is often more serious due to the weight of the vehicles involved. Sustaining an injury is traumatic enough, but often, victims also continue to suffer when insurance claims are disputed or denied.
